I am an adventurous solo traveler, So when I heard about this ecological hotel in Portland, Jamaica called Great Huts with an African village inspired theme, I booked it without hesitation, I was super excited about going. I made Great huts the last leg of my Jamaica Carnival Turn up week in Kingston because I knew I would need some Meditation and Yoga after all the shenanigans.
To get to this hidden oasis is easy, you would fly into Kingston and take a scenic 2hr ride by cab for about $125 or take the Knutsford Express bus Service for $30 which is way more economical. Its clean, comfortable and safe. (the bus depot is right outside of the airport) I take Knutsford because i am traveling solo, but if you're with a group of people you can split the cab costs.

I have been to most of the touristy areas of Jamaica, like Montego Bay, Negril, Ocho Rios, this gave me a chance to see a different part of my favorite Island in the whole wide world...
There are several different styles of accommodations, you can choose according to your comfortability. I wanted the closest to a real experience of staying in a hut, plus I am adventurous, so I chose the most rustic of huts... Its a HUT HUT...LOL
CHECK IT OUT
You really feel like your in the jungle, you wake up to the sounds of singing birds and the ocean...You can take a short stroll to the cliffs overlooking the beautiful Caribbean ocean and catch a clear view of the morning sunrise
you can sit here and enjoy the sunrise

At Great Huts, breakfast is included with your stay. Breakfast is served at Safari restaurant, it is a huge treehouse-style restaurant.
You can use regular utensils or you can use natural wood utensils.

They have a beautiful natural beach, which is lush with foliage, lots of shade if you need, hammocks to take a nice nap in and a natural pool. There is a nice mini cliff side view where you can lay back in a lounge chair and watch the surf boys catch waves. (they have surfing lessons if you like)
There is also natural water Cliffside infinity pool

For your entertainment, they have a weekly Saturday night Native African dance show.
Your Nightly Lullaby.. I would highly recommend Great Huts, it is a great option, if you want to take a step away from the beaten path... Away from the big chain hotel, to something more nature-loving, peaceful, spiritual.
